A Letter to the Insecure Girl in all of Us

A letter to the insecure and self-conscious girl in all of us:

To the one with trust issues and a hardened heart.

To those of us who aren’t good enough, qualified enough.

To the girls with dad issues.

To the girl who comes from a broken home.

To the girl holding the image of the perfect life.

To the girls who feel invisible.

To the ones who seeks out every flaw in herself because she believes thats the only thing others see in her.

To the one who can’t find a reason to smile.

To the girl who covers up her pain with laughter.

To those whose innocence was stolen far too young.

To the ones who are starving for attention.

To the prom queens and the athletes.

To the high school drop outs and the valedictorians.

To the girls just trying to survive, one day at a time.

To the ones who don’t have enough and the ones who have way too much.

To those who look in the mirror and only see every zit, every wrinkle, every stretch mark and curve.

To the skinny girl, the fat girl, the shy girl, the loud girl.

To the ones with anxiety and the ones with false confidence.

To the girls who believe they’ve fallen too far.

To the ones who think they’re unloveable.

This letter is for you.

Hey girl. Wake Up. You are not defined by anything on that list. Your state of mind is not reality. Your perception is not reality. Your feelings are not the reality of who you truly are.

Let me tell you who you really are.

No, don’t listen to me.

Let the God of the universe tell you who you are:

You are worthy.

But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us

You are wanted.

For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me in. Psalm 27:10

You are beautiful.

You are altogether beautiful, my love; there is no flaw in you. Song of Solomon 4:7

You are adored.

You are precious and honoured in my sight, and. . . I love you. Isaiah 43:4

You are valued.

Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Matthew 6:26

You are chosen.

You are a chosen people, a royal preisthood, a holy nation, God’s special posession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you. 1 Peter 2:9

You are safe and secure.

Let the beloved of the Lord rest secure in him, for he shields him all day long, and the one the Lord loves rests between his shoulders. Deuteronomy 33:12

You are a princess.

And if children, then heirs – heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. For the creation waits with eater longing for the revealing of the sons of God Romans 8:17-19

For in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. Galatians 3:26

You are a beloved daughter.

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Romans 8:14-16

You are favoured.

The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing. Zephaniah 3:17

You are flawless.

“Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.” Isaiah 1:18

You are known.

For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Psalm 139:13

You are LOVED. You know love. You are called to love and to be loved. Your past no longer defines you; don’t let it stop you from being who you were created to be. Your identity is no longer wrapped up in your circumstances. The core of your being is  in all those things listed above. Your identity is in Christ, who loves you and gave his life for you.

It’s okay to love again. Love yourself and love others.

I’m begging you to LOVE AGAIN. I can’t guarantee you it is going to be painless – but I will promise you will never again be hopeless.

Wake up!  Not a hair on your head was placed there on accident. Not a single breath you take has gone to waste. Live in this reality where you are so beautiful, so loved. The reality that you have a purpose and a calling.

Don’t you ever return to that dark place that tells you otherwise. Don’t do it. It’s not reality. Don’t be fooled again.

Embrace who you are and pursue who you were made to be. You were made to love.

Your old life is dead. Your new life, which is your real life—even though invisible to spectators—is with Christ in God. He is your life. When Christ (your real life, remember) shows up again on this earth, you’ll show up, too—the real you, the glorious you. Meanwhile, be content with obscurity, like Christ. Colossians 3:3-14
